How do I measure my child?

Accurate Measurements for the Best Fit!

Handmade children's clothing can and often does fit a little different than big box stores!

The above graphic shows where to take the following measurements : Head, Chest, Waist, and Hips / Hipseat. You will also need their Height measurement. Here, I will give a bit more info on how best to take these measurements!

Height

Have your (barefoot) child stand straight on a level surface, and measure from heel to the top of the head.

Head

You will need a Head measurement if you are purchasing beanies, hats, or headbands. To take the measurements, wrap a measuring tape around the head at the widest point about 1/8-1/4 inch about the eyebrows. Be sure that the tape is straight and not slanted.

Chest

Take a measuring tape and wrap it around your child, just under the arms at the widest point of the chest. (Arms should be at the sides) Make sure the measuring tape is as level as possible all the way around and not slanted around the back.

Waist

This measurement is taken with a measuring tape around the smallest part of the abdomen a little above the hips. This is the natural waistline and will most likely be a bit above the belly button.

Hips / Hipseat

This measurement is taken around the widest part of your child's hips/bottom while standing with their legs together.

Other Important Measurements to Have

Trunk Length

Trunk length is measured from the shoulder, down to the crotch area and back up to the same shoulder from the other side. If your child wears a diaper, this measurement is to be taken without the diaper.

Inseam

Measure from just under the crotch area on one leg down to the bottom of the ankle.
